Emmy's First Haircut!

What goes around comes around! One of the stories that is forever told by family is a time when I cut another child's hair. I was about five at the time. My mom ran an in home day care. She babysat my second cousin. One day I decided that I didn't like her hair, so I cut it. SHORT. We are talking boy length.

The day before Thanksgiving, I was making preparations for the feast. While something was cooking, I thought that I would take a few minutes and do a brief, quick clean-up. While I was picking up things, I noticed that there were chunks of hair on the floor; curly chunks of hair.

I wish I could say that I handled the situation calmly, but that was not the case. I screamed! I knew which child had had their hair cut. It was Emmy! The child who has had the least amount of hair, the child who you want to have the most hair, the child who it has taken so stinking long to grow any hair at all. Here is a link to a picture of what here hair looked like a few days before he cut it.Emmy had two pony tails that day. Hyrum cut them both off about where the elastic would have been (she took the elastics out during her nap). When I asked him why he cut her hair he said that he didn't like pigtails. When I asked him if he cut Ben's hair he told me "no, Ben's hair is just right!" (I did notice a few pieces in Ben's hair that were cut a couple of days later.)

Hyrum claimed responsibility for the awful deed and went to timeout while I called my friend. I knew my friend was going out of town the next day and I was calling to find the soonest time I could get Emmy in for a hair cut after she got back in to town. Bless her heart, she said Emmy could come over that night.

When we got to the house, Emmy was telling all the kids what happened. It was so funny she was jibbering to the kids and pointing to her hair and calling it an owie. It was so cute! She was really stressed and worried about her curly locks!

Whitney was so sweet with Emmy. She found a show she would like, gave her a Vanilla Wafer and went to work. Whitney was going to wash Emmy's hair first since she had food in her hair (she plays with hair all the time and so there is always left overs in her hair after she eats) but Emmy started to get really nervous, so it was decided that spraying it down would do just fine.

Emmy calmed down after she realized she didn't need to get her hair washed. She sat pretty still during her hair cut and was happy with her cookie and Clifford on TV. She already knows at a young age that beauty is pain.
It was decided that the best thing to do would be to cut off her remaining curls and shape her hair into a sweet bob hair cut and hopefully hide the really small pieces at top.

Emmy even got her hair blown dry for the first time.
I think it turned out pretty cute. I have to comb her hair just right, otherwise you see the very thin and short hair on top. I am so grateful that Whitney took time from her busy night to cut her hair. Thanks again Whitney!

OH NO!!! That is my worst fear! We wait so long for little girls hair to grow out! It turned out really cute in the end, though.

so cute! I think little girls look older and cuter when their hair is cut. What a sweet girl.

wow. well i told you the other day how emma nearly got hers chopped off. but i caused my own to nearly be cut as well as a kid when i got a twirly-curl barbie tool caught in my hair... maybe hyrum could have helped ease the pain! i don't think i'll be sharing this story with mags... don't want to give her any ideas!

That is so funny he cut off her piggies because he didn't like them! Sad...but funny! At least she looks adorable in her little bob!

That stinks! I completely cried when Cambri cut her own hair. Emmy's turned out much cuter than Cambri's, though!

Your mom told me at Thanksgiving about this! AH! My mom told me that when I was three I did that to myself, snipped off my own pony tail.
I think that she looks way cute with her new do though. Kids will be kids. Those little stinkers!

I want to laugh and cry. i hope you were able to save a curl or two in a plastic baggie. But Emmy's new haircut is really, really adorable! I'm sure you'll miss the curls, but she still looks precious.

I think her new haircut is adorable! It stinks that you had to go through the trauma of the initial hair cutting incident though!
