Hercamur and Mergatroid

We realized that no one has seen the sonogram we got from our visit to the doctors. The babies heart beats are good, and it seems that one of them is laying on top of the other. Maybe they are wrestling for who gets to go first. We know that they are faternal since there are two seperate sacs. If they were identical, they would be in one sac. We find out in about 1 1/2 months their sex. We will keep you posted. By the way, due to popular demand, these have become the names of the babies until two suitable ones can be picked when they are born. Also, we thought about taking a poll on what everyone thinks the sex of the babies will be. We will post the results and, who knows, maybe a prize will be in store. Just email me. Here is the picture. They took the first one and everything seemed fine then the doctor had a feeling to zoom in and the second picture is what they saw, SCARY!!!!!!

Hyrum and the ducks!

Hyrum loves to go and see the ducks! Our friends the Ames love to "borrow" Hyrum for the day and take him out to play. He loves to go quack, quack just like the ducks and is always trying to get into the water to be with them. He looks a little unsure in this picture about what is going on...but honestly he loves the ducks!

Diaper Experiment...Ewwwww

I love chemistry, and anytime I get to do an experiment for someone, I do. I have one that you can do with your kids that may perk their science minds. I promise they will love this. Here goes. (P.S. try it first so you get the hang of it before you show it to your kids.)

You need:
• 3 small Styrofoam cups
• Sodium polyacrylate powder: cut open top layer of two diapers and dump little white beads into a large bowl. They are all around the cotton in the diaper. [I would suggest unused diapers]
• Glass/beaker of water

Procedure
1. Measure 1/3 teaspoon of sodium polyacrylate into one cup. If you want to make it more fun, dont tell them anything is in the cup. I usually put in more than 1/3 tsp.
2. Slowly pour 25-30 mL of water into the cup with the sodium polyacrylate.
3. As in a shell game, ask your kids to keep their eye on the cup containing the
water. You will move the cups around into a different order.
4. Ask the students which cup contains the water. Hold the cup of their choice into the air and turn over. (Nothing should empty). If you filled the other cups with the polyacrylate powder, you can do it two more times and amaze them.

The trick is the powder. It has an amazing ability to hold many times its weight in water and attach with other beads of the powder to clump. You can tell them that it is a polymer, which can also be found in plastics, rubbers, eye glasses, sandwich bags, raincoats, shirts, pants and nearly everything you see in your house. Your body even has these amazing molecules. Tell me if you want more and I will post them. Enjoy!

Our Terrific Boy

Brandon Here....We thought everyone would like to hear a little about Hyrum. We know for sure that we have a boy. He loves dogs, cars and balls. Everywhere we go he calls out "car" or "ball" not matter how many there are. He also loves his mom and wants her to be happy. Every time Natalie worships at the porcelain throne, he scratches moms back and tries to tickle her feet. (We think he got this from me scratching her back when she is in the bathroom) He loves to tickle everyone's feet, even complete strangers which can be an awkward situation if you can imagine.
Some of our really close friends decided they wanted to borrow Hyrum today and took him to the duck pond. They said he had a blast, even when he tried to crawl into the pond to grab the ducks. His favorite thing is to bean them in the head with bread. He just laughs when the duck quacks out of sheer defense for their lives.
We are waiting for his new pictures to come in and we will post them here. We are hoping this blog will be a nice place to post things and keep everyone updated on our lives.
